2021: A relaxed year for Elections Cameroon, ELECAM

The annual revision of Cameroon’s electoral register starts today Monday, January 4th to end on the 31st of August 2021.

The revision entails registering new voters, transferring electoral data of those that have changed their areas of residence, deleting names of those that have died, and correcting inappropriate information of some individuals.

With no election previewed in Cameroon in 2021, the work of ELECAM workers is likely to witness a slow pace. At the ELECAM communal branch office at New Bell Quarter in Douala Monday, January 4th, workers are present but as of 11:00 am, no Cameroonian has visited the office either for registration, withdrawal of voters card, or any other business.

Some Cameroonians have lost faith in ELECAM describing it as an arm of the ruling party in Cameroon and not an independent election organizing body.
