Traditional ruler decries ‘degrading’ Cameroon under Biya

His Majesty Fo’o Sokoudjou Mpoda has decried what he says is a degrading Cameroon under the regime of President Paul Biya. From the time of Cameroon’s first president, Amadou Ahidjo to the present regime of president Paul biya, His Majesty Fo’o Sokoudjou Mpoda;paramount traditional ruler of Bamendjou; Bamboutus division in the West region of Cameroon gives an appraisal of governance portraying how Cameroonians are disillusioned.

In a publication Sunday August 30th August 2020, the traditional ruler says administration in Cameroon has as basic tenets stealing, corruption, embezzlement, lies telling, injustice and fraud – activities of leaders he examines that have reduced Cameroon’s economy to nothing as the regime of President Paul Biya has privatized companies left behind by president Amadou Ahidjo.

His Majesty Fo’o Sokoudjou Mpoda regrets that real businessmen are hunted and crippled by the regime by imposing high taxes on their businesses if they dare to support the opposition in Cameroon. At the same time “the regime creates its own business that supports its political actions without doing anything concrete to create jobs and alleviate poverty in the country”.He states that civil servants are bound to engage in other activities to live well given that salaries have been reduced to nothing. In the domain of providing basic necessities to Cameroonians, the prominent traditional leader from the west region of Cameroon says the regime of president Paul Biya has once again failed woefully. In his words, “there is no water, electricity and roads. While the population suffer, the minority rich mock the people with their riches. Who are you mocking? You intimidates anyone that opposes you but you will gain if you look for solutions of difficulties experienced by Cameroonians rather than looking for people to victimize” In the political process of electing leaders, the custodian of tradition says sometimes just fifty civil servants elect a member of parliament in Cameroon under very undemocratic conditions. He adds that “change is inevitable either the regime of President Paul Biya likes it or not. We should instead focus on the fact that the change should be calm and peaceful so that someone’s head should not fall on his shoulder”.

He acknowledges that the regime of President Paul Biya has run out of ideas to develop Cameroon and improve the lives of the population. While insisting that the change should come from ballot boxes, His Majesty Fo’o Sokoundjou Mpoba regrets that there is “…a weak opposition that cannot form a veritable block to bring about change. They are interested in getting their own share of the national cake”. To him, the population is unaware of the fact that power really belongs to them is weakened by poverty and inadequately provision of basic necessities.

“In all these, the population is engaged in drinking alcohol, sect and religion while poverty is on the rise”. The traditional ruler believes firmly that France is largely responsible for the plight of Cameroonians by installing people that are answerable to France at the helm of power since independence. To him, the priority of former president Amadou Ahidjou and President Paul Biya has so far been to satisfy France to the detriment of Cameroonians. “In 1982 Cameroonians had hopes of a new beginning when Paul Biya Cameroon to power but later discovered that he was worse than the first president”.The publication of His Majesty Fo’o Sokoundjou comes at a time when the Cameroon Renaissance Movement Party is calling for a stop in organizing the regional election.
