THE PLACE OF PEACE: JOURNALISM IN CRISIS SITUATIONS

What bleeds, leads. Journalism should go back to the root of their professionalism that is peace Journalism. Madame Rosaline Obah during a peace talked to the Department of Journalism and mass communication on Friday October 30th 2020, said "You cannot hold the gun with your right hand and a peace plant with your left hand". You need to stand for peace as a journalist

15 years after graduating from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, I returned to give back to my Alma Mata on the invitation of the Head of Department, Dr Kingsley Ngange and cream of dynamic lecturers.

As special guest to one of their key programmes organised every year, I was privileged as National Coordinator of the Cameroon Community Media Network CCMN, to deliver a 45min talk on "The  place of Peace Journalism in crisis situations," Friday October 30, 2020

Over 500 freshmen, returning students, and the JMC department family and guests were held spell bound by the presentation with a thought provoking Question and Answer at the end. Many testified to have gained much and resolved to be peace journalists while upholding the virtues of Truth, accuracy, responsibility, independence and impartialit

I left them with this message," Peace Journalism is People Oriented and not Gombo Oriented. Peace Journalism is solution oriented and a timely endeavour for journalists to use appropriate words and images that encourages initiatives that offer non violent responses to conflict with a special focus on tilting our stories around the vulnerable, minority and the suffering masses who bear the brunt of conflict daily and mostly go underreported

God bless our prestigious JMC department, the visionary HOD and team
