Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio has repealed a 55-year-old libel law that has been used by successive governments to jail journalists.
Journalists in Sierra Leone have called it "Liberation Day".
After the signing ceremony at State House, President Bio told BBC Newsday: " You cannot have a vibrant democracy without journalism which is unfettered... of course that poses some problems but that is part of the democratic environment we have to live in."
