Hon Joshua Osih at loggerheads with Bidoung Mpkatt over rehabilitation works at National Museum

The 1st Vice National President of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) party, Honorable Osih Joshua has expressed his extreme dissatisfaction with the plans of Pierre Ismaël Bidoung Mpkatt, Minister of Arts and Culture in relation to the rehabilitation of the Yaoundé National Museum.

In Bidoung Mpkatt’s capacity as the Minister of Arts and Culture, he had made it clear that the ministry intended to develop a space at the esplanade of the National Museum in Yaoundé for Artists.

The idea has however been heavily bashed by Hon Osih, who according to him will take away a vital part of the country’s history that the museum represents.

“I am shocked to see that we are trying to erect hard buildings on this beautiful esplanade. It reminds us of a part of our history. You hurt the sensitivity of millions of Cameroonians by doing so. Let’s give this national monument what it is. It had an esplanade that was the pride of Cameroonians. Let us not give the image of a country which cannot save a national monument,” he explained to the Le Jour Newspaper.

Minister Bidoung Mpkatt however feels Osih’s view is non standing as he maintains it is the best possible action for the artist who are a vital part of the country’s culture and history.
